Major Thomas passes away
Without doubt the most significant event for us in 2007 was the passing of Major Ian Thomas, the founder of Capernwray Torchbearers. The Major went to be with the Lord on the 1st of August, two days after being flown by helicopter from his home in Estes Park, to ICU in Loveland, Colorado. His wife Joan and his sons, Chris and Andy, were present with him when he died, and as Chris said, “we were there with him, singing him into heaven”.
            There have been a number of services that have paid tribute to the life of a very unique and faithful man, one of which was here at our centre on the 10th of October.
            Peter Thomas, the third son and Director of Capernwray in New Zealand was present, together with many of the Board members, staff, students and guests.
            Peter shared with us the life of his father and in a moving tribute Major’s last video message was played to those gathered. The Major’s message was the same as it has always been, clearly communicating that Christ came that we would have life, His life!
            Here are just a few of the memorable quotes that were shared.
“Jesus is the life that sets men free”.
            “Simply take what He has made available, and say ‘hank you”.
            “The truth is a person and that person is Jesus”.
            And the quote that is most recognised;
            “I can’t, but then Jesus never said I could, but He can and
always said He would, if only I would trust Him to do it, and say ‘thank you’ in advance”.
            Such a simple message that speaks to the truth of life IN Christ!
            Thank you to all who have expressed their sadness, but remember that the Major would not want us to be sad, he is rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! He would be encouraging us to continue being faithful men and women, as he shared with us in his last book “The Indwelling Life of Christ”;
“When you and I, in the discharge of our responsibility, share Jesus with others, we can have the hilarious expectation that something of timeless worth is happening, whether we fully see it or not. It makes the Christian life so incredibly exciting!”
We choose to be faithful and we pray that you will also.
